What Does Abstract Mean?

Abstract is unlike any other church name, so why Abstract? What does it mean? The word Abstract can have many meanings such as complex, deep, philosophical, intellectual, and transcendent. All of these in one way or another show parts of God's personality and character.  In addition to these meanings, Abstract is also an art form. Abstract art can be defined as art that breaks away from tradition. The thing about abstract art is that there is always something more than meets the eye. This is just like our lives as Christians because as Christians there is always something more than meets the eye and that something is Christ. Christ was different; he went in the face of expectations, traditions, and culture. In fact, Christ is the difference maker. He made a way for anyone, no matter their past, present, or future circumstances, so that they could come into a relationship with God. Because Christ is the difference in the world and He lives in the heart of Christians, Christians are the difference in the world. Abstract, in this sense of the word, means different. It also means a different kind of church for our region. Abstract is a non-denominational church centered on the love of Christ. We exist to see all people made whole in the love of Jesus. Abstract Church holds true to the foundations of the Christian faith as well as the practice of baptism by water and the practice of communion. Our worship experience is contemporary, our dress is whatever you feel comfortable in (so long as it is clothes), and we seek to know God through a deep intellectual connection with our Savior, Jesus Christ.  We are a little bit different or as we like to say little bit Abstract.

Why the Lightning Bolt?

The lightning bolt signifies energy and urgency. The word “lightning” is mentioned in Scripture forty-nine times, mostly in the Old Testament. It is mentioned to signify the power of God and the might of His Kingdom. The Scripture that is our basis can be found in Matthew 24:27, “For as the lightning flashes in the east and shines to the west so will be the coming of the Son of Man.” Lightning in this verse talks about urgency and the signs that will accompany Christ’s second coming. Lightning for us means urgency and energy. We will preach with urgency, teach with urgency, and reach with urgency because we believe that people’s very lives depend on hearing the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the unconditional love that is only found through the salvation of Christ.
